A Global School in the Rural

Not to be left out by the modernization that is sweeping Indonesia, a network of Islamic Schools in rural Serang, Banten collaborates with Al-Irsyad Singapore to setup Mathlaul Anwar Global School (MAGS)

This auspicious event took place in March 2012 at the Mathlaul Anwar HQ in Banten and is witnessed by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim (Minister of the Environment and Water Resources and Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Singapore). Also present were H.E. Ashok Mirpuri, Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia and Hj Alami Musa, President Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura.

This MOU will see Madrasah Al-Irsyad assisting MA in :
– Capacity Building of teachers and staff
– Curriculum upgrading
– Transfer of Education Best practices
– Strengthening of School Management System

When asked why the Irsyad model was chosen, the Education Head of Mathlaul Anwar, Dr Jihaduddin M. Pd, said, “Apart from sharing the same vision, we are attracted to the emphasis given by Irsyad towards the learning of English, Mathematics and Science while still retaining the strong Islamic tradition in the schooling system.”

“MA wants such a system, where future generation gain a competitive advantage through modernizing of our curriculum and systems, while at the same time strengthening our faith. Even though we’re in the rural province, we don’t want our children to be left out from such progress.”
